Alopecia (Hair Loss) - how is it caused
The cause of hair loss (alopecia) include heredity, hormones, diet, stress, illness, and also poor hair care. Diet, Stress and illness are considered more temporary conditions and the hair loss usually can be reversed when the diet is improved, or when the anxiety inducing condition is reduced, the illness is cured, when hair care improves.
Hormones and heredity are of a different matter. With heredity, the condition is irreversible. Being a product of your parents is something I am sure you have heard before, and with hair loss, it is often inherited. Now with hormones the effects will usually differ form person to person.
With Males, you will find that testosterone is abundant. There are enzymes that turn testosterone into a substance known as DHT. DHT is known to travel with the blood and can cause a variety of conditions, one of these involves shrinking of hair follicles. When the hair follicles shrink to a certain point, they will be unable to make new hair and even push the hair up. You will then see as the older hair dies, no new hair will replace it.
In Women, a hormonal imbalance can be the cause of hair loss. Menopause, pregnancy and even childbirth can all significantly change hormonal levels in the body leading to both mental and physical effects. This can lead to hair loss either permanent or temporary.
There have been hair loss and hair re growth products around for centuries. In the ancient times, they used a variety of oil based and herbal remedies that had ranging degrees of effectiveness.
There is also another alternative to drugs, or if your hair loss is hereditary, and that is hair restoration. This involves transplanting hair from another part of the body, usually back or sides of the head, to the affected area. This is a remarkably simple outpatient procedure.
